The material is extremely rigid when crimped into this unique shape, which gives the element the extra staying power of much more expensive heavy cross-section elements used for the last sixty years. Incorporating a light cross-section with the crimped channel shape makes for strong improvement in hot strength, a low density for heating efficiency, with added benefit of lower cost. Lightweight density is very important to any furnace manufacture or engineer given the challenge of high efficiency furnaces lined with fiber insulation.
